We Tricked Grandma

Last night I did a bad thing. I lied to my grandma. So did my mom… and Diana didn’t really get the hint. Poor grandma is legally blind and really cannot see much of anything. She also is very reluctant to try new foods. Like fish. She likes salmon though. So when we gave her a beautiful piece of seared tuna last night, we told her it was salmon. She went on all dinner about how delicious the seasoning of the salmon was, unlike any salmon she ever tasted. It was only when she was completely finished her dinner and assured us it was the best piece of salmon she ever ate that we confessed to her that she was really eating ahi tuna. She took it with good spirits and we all laughed about it. Maybe you had to be there but if you know my grandma then you would understand why it was so funny.

Mango Salsa recipe:
  • 2 mangos, cubed
  • 1 hot pepper, diced
  • 1 red onion, diced
  • A handful of dried jalapeno chips
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 green pepper, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Combine all the ingredients gently in a bowl and spread on top of your fish (or chicken!) for a delicious summer meal.

Tuna Recipe:
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of ground ginger
  • Ahi tuna filet
  1. Marinade the tuna as long as you want to (1-24 hours).
  2. Place of a hot griddle for 3 minutes on each side depending on how done you want the fish to be
  3. Add a little of the marinade as the fish is cooking
  4. Slice and serve

  2. She needs to be more adventurous. It wasn't like we were feeding her cyanide!
